About MRPC Mission The Montachusett Regional Planning Commission, commonly known as the MRPC, was established in 1968 under the “Regional Planning Law” MA General Law Chapter 40B, Section 1 through 8 to carry out comprehensive regional planning. MRPC is a regional planning district created by and responsible to its member municipalities.
MRPC makes careful studies of the resources, possibilities and needs of its region, and on the basis of those studies makes recommendations for the physical, social and economic improvement of its district.
Services For forty years, MRPC has offered technical and professional services to its 22 members. MRPC provides a variety of services to its communities ranging from:
Ø Comprehensive planning Ø Brownfields Ø Homeland security Ø Natural hazard pre-disaster mitigation Ø Central business district reuse planning Ø Land use and zoning Ø Transportation Ø Community and economic development, Ø Housing Ø Transit Ø Environmental planning. Ø Facilitating forums for communities
MRPC also has a department dedicated to Geographic Information System (GIS) services.
Montachusett Region The MRPC planning area consists of three cities, 19 towns and Devens. These communities are located in northern Worcester county and Middlesex county. The region’s population is 228,005 and our planning area encompasses approximately 684 square miles. |
Quick Hits Goals, Policies and Strategies To assist and guide MRPC Commissioners and staff in the review of documents, plans, studies and general issues related to the growth and advancement of the Montachusett Region, a series of goals, policies and strategies were developed to provide a unifying and consistent direction in which the Montachusett Region and its Planning Commission can move forward. Originally developed in September 1977, the document has been regularly updated over the years. The latest version was adopted on September 24, 2002.
